This gorgeous area outside of New York City has lots of interesting things happening now and many interesting pieces of history have happened there, as well. New Rochelle is one of the few cities in the area to have a French name, and it’s because it was settled by French Protestant Huguenots in the 1600’s. Though much of that history has faded away, New Rochelle still retains some of its French character.

New Rochelle is in the top 2% in the country for cultural diversity, and it’s one of the largest cities in all of New York state. It’s also one of the most expensive places to live in the country, but many of the individuals who live there are paid very highly.

The tourism of the area was, after all, founded on botanical gardens and other seaside attractions. One of the interesting things about New Rochelle is the recent downtown renovation, which culminated in New Roc City, the downtown entertainment complex. The complex includes a huge theater with almost twenty screens, restaurants, an ice hockey rink, and a go kart track. This has become one of the major draws both for visitors and for locals. Many who visit New Rochelle spend time at the beach and end up spending the evenings having a ball in New Roc City, and this project has brought a lot of revenue to the town since it’s been built.
